REVIEWS

“Is there any reason to think alien communication systems would share the two key design features of human language: words and grammar? Mr. Oberhaus adduces arguments that they might."

THE ECONOMIST

“A dense and wide-ranging book...The more we learn about ourselves and the universe, the more we appreciate that aliens probably won’t just be humans with longer limbs and waving antennae. How do you communicate with a planet-sized slime with ESP that eats electricity?”

LONDON REVIEW OF BOOKS

"Extraterrestrial Languages is fascinating...a mostly sober study of real—scientific, mathematical, artistic, and philosophical—efforts to enact this linguistic rendezvous."

MOONPIES ALIEN ACQUISITION

In November 2023, Daniel Oberhaus consulted for Tombras on an advertising campaign for Moonpies.

Daniel helped the Tombras creative team design an extraterrestrial language for the campaign that was derived from system created by Stephane Dumas and Yvan Dutil for the Cosmic Call transmissions.

The Moonpies campaign ran globally and the language that Daniel helped design for the campaign was run on Times Square's Mega Screen, billboards in Roswell, sky banners over Cape Canaveral, mobile billboards in London, scrolling billboards in Tokyo, and floating billboards in Sydney.

The campaign was honored with a 2024 D&AD pencil and received coverage in USA Today, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, WIRED, AdAge, AdWeek, The Drum, Muse, and elsewhere.
